What exactly is the Beauty Health Index?

The Beauty Health Index (BHI) is a composite score that quantifies objective markers of facial aesthetic health. It combines several independent sub scores covering skin quality, morphologic balance, symmetry, periorbital signals as well as lower face contour into a single, comparable number that you can track over time. BHI is a measurement tool. It is not a beauty ranking. It is not a verdict on your appearance.

Is my photo or face scan stored anywhere?

Yes, temporarily. Your facial scan data is used only to generate your BHI Score, stored securely for up to 60 days, and never sold or used for advertising. Temporary copies used during scoring are deleted as soon as scoring is complete, while facial images, video, derived landmarks, and scan results are retained in our cloud infrastructure for up to 60 days. We do not use your Scan Data to train AI models and we do not sell it.

Is BHI a medical device or medical advice?

Accepted Answer

No. BHI is an informational wellness product. It is not a medical device under EU Regulation 2017/745 (MDR), US FDA rules or any equivalent framework. The score does not diagnose conditions. It is not a substitute for an in person evaluation by a qualified dermatologist, plastic surgeon or other physician. For any actual health concern, talk to a professional.

How accurate is the score?

Each sub metric is calibrated against a peer reviewed dataset of facial morphology, skin biology as well as expert ratings from board certified plastic surgeons or dermatologists. Test retest variability is published on the Science page so you can see exactly how much noise to expect between scans. We focus on objective signals (geometry, texture, pigment distribution) rather than subjective opinion.

How do I get the most reliable scan?

Use soft, even daylight. Avoid harsh side lighting, direct sun or coloured indoor bulbs. Remove glasses. Push hair off the forehead. Take off heavy makeup if you want a measurement of your actual skin. Hold the phone at eye level about an arm’s length away. The app walks you through each step. A complete scan takes under sixty seconds.

How often should I scan myself?

For trend tracking, once a week is plenty. Daily scans mostly capture noise (sleep, hydration, lighting variation) rather than real change. Scanning at the same time of day under similar lighting gives the cleanest signal. If you are trialling a new routine or treatment, lock in a fixed cadence (for example every Sunday morning) so the comparison is honest.

Why does my score change day to day?

Short term swings are normal. Sleep, hydration, alcohol, salt, stress, your menstrual cycle as well as lighting all influence skin appearance or facial fluid distribution. That is why BHI is built around trends rather than single readings. The seven day or thirty day moving average is the number that actually matters.

Can I compare my score with someone else?

We strongly recommend you do not. BHI is built to track change in one face over time, not to rank faces against each other. Two people can have very different baselines for reasons that have nothing to do with health (bone structure, ethnicity, age). Compare yourself with yourself.

Does BHI work across different skin tones, ages or genders?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The underlying models are trained on a diverse dataset covering a wide range of skin tones, ages from eighteen upward as well as both male or female facial morphology. Sub scores are normalised against age appropriate reference ranges so a healthy seventy year old can score well without being compared to a twenty year old.

Which devices are supported?

BHI runs on modern iOS or Android phones. A TrueDepth capable iPhone (iPhone X or later) gives the highest fidelity geometry data. Recent Android flagships with a good front camera also produce reliable scores. Older devices may work in a reduced mode that skips depth based sub scores.

What does BHI cost?

Accepted Answer

The core score is free. Advanced longitudinal reports, treatment effect analysis, exportable PDFs as well as professional integrations will be offered as part of an optional paid plan. We will never put your basic score behind a paywall.

Can I share my results with my dermatologist or clinic?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only when you initiate it. You can generate a shareable report or grant a specific clinic time limited access. Once a clinic receives the report they act as an independent data controller. You can revoke their access at any time from the app.

Will BHI use my data to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

Only if you actively opt in, only on anonymised aggregated data as well as never on raw facial images. The opt in is granular. You can withdraw at any time without losing access to the core product. Re identifying anonymised research data is explicitly prohibited.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Accepted Answer

Open the app, go to Settings then Account then Delete account. Your account, your historical scores as well as any linked metadata are erased within thirty days, subject to any minimum retention we are legally required to keep (for example billing records). You can also email info@beautyhealthindex.com to request deletion.

Is BHI safe for teenagers?

Accepted Answer

No. BHI is for adults eighteen or older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Any account found to belong to someone under eighteen is suspended or deleted.

Question 16

I think my score is wrong. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

First, retake the scan in better lighting with a clean face at eye level. If the score still feels off, send us the scan ID (no image is attached, just the identifier) at info@beautyhealthindex.com so the team can investigate the specific measurement.
